φones assembles a sequence of photographs with etched drawings on plates whose shapes rep-
licates internal components of smartphones. The photographs – taken in a phone repair-shop – focus on hands wrapped in black rubber gloves. Hands of an employee replacing internal components that echoes the shapes of the etching plates. Cartoon like drawings on those plates depicts anthropomorphic smartphones caught in incongruous, awkward or stressful situations.
The handcrafted drawings and assemblage contrast with the topic: An object of almost acheiropoietical origin. Black mirrors or black boxes, the intervention of a human hand is invisible in these design objects that have pervaded all levels of our lives. The joyful and cheeky tone of the drawings wishes to exorcise all the dark patterns implied in this endless variation of the same.
